Back to School!

The first day of school begins September 8, 2011. I am looking foward to seeing new students and returning students.

This year, the teachers in the Lower School will have access to iPads in their classrooms. It will be exciting to see how students and teachers use these tools.

4th Graders Survey their Classmates!

The 4th Grade students surveyed their classmates about a topic of their choice (i.e. What is your favorite song?). Then, they inserted the data into Excel spreadsheets and created graphs. Currently, the students are using voice recordings to describe their results. Check back soon to see their work!

Learning to Type!

It’s time to get those fingers ready for typing! This year, we are using Typing Pal.

Remember to focus on these things:

  • Accuracy
  • Good posture
  • Home-row position (ASDF JKL;)
  • Looking at the screen, not at your fingers

Always try your best! With practice, you will develop speed.

Welcome to the 2010-11 School Year!

After an exciting summer, school resumes on Wednesday, September 8th. I learned a lot this summer during a course for my doctoral degree. One of my goals for this year is to use more Web 2.0 tools with Grades 3 and 4, and to get some Lower School teachers to create blogs.

3rd Grade Newsletters

The three third grade classes each did their own newsletter. They selected their topics and wrote their articles with Apple’s Pages software. Then, they used digital cameras to capture images to illustrate their articles. Lastly, I combined all of the students’ articles into three different class newsletters. We all enjoyed our hard work!

Check out the 3J Class Newsletter, 3B Class Newsletter and 3P Class Newsletter.
